Creating with feminine energy
If you’re like me, you’re very practiced in using masculine energy to try to get something done or to make something happen.
Masculine energy is all about doing.
Picture the archetypical male figure on a white horse, heavy sword raised high, heading out into the big world to DO something, capture something, conquer something. We know how to DO. And our culture supports and rewards DOING. The whole Industrial Revolution (origins right here in RI) was all about people DOING. Work x number of hours to manufacture x number of widgets. Even today, lots of people work lots of hours, day in and day out, to do something or make something or make something happen. Very different from the feminine aspects of Nature that allow for the ebb and flow of energy, with cycles of creativity and rest.
What I’m saying is we’re really practiced at doing. And for what it’s worth, that’s a very useful masculine skill to have. But, in my opinion, everything is better when you include the feminine.
The feminine energy involved in creating is all about allowing, letting go, accepting, yielding. Yup, even surrendering. Yup, even giving up control and giving up our timeline. Sound scary and uncomfortable? I get that. But here’s another way to look at it.
We’re also letting go of:
Worry
Stress.
Exhaustion
Anxiety
Having to DO something all the time
Creating with feminine energy, we learn to lean into:
Trust
Relief
Faith
Peace
A deeper sense of calm because we realize some things take time
When we balance our masculine creativity with feminine energy, we’re tapping into strength and power that comes from beyond our small ego-selves. We’re tapping into Universal Power.
I especially like what I heard from Michael Bernard Beckwith on this subject:
“With masculine energy, we're making something happen. With the feminine, we're making something welcome.”
Making something welcome. Let that sink in for a moment. Feel the difference?
